The industrial engineer will report to the shop and work to develop standardized work to enable a world class lean manufacturing strategy.  The position will require extensive relationship building & integration with program teams, product engineering, manufacturing engineering and the plant team.  This position requires an ability to work with little direction, look ahead to problem solve operation issues early in launch and a desire to break through obstacles.  The industrial engineer will need to facilitate standardized work for cyclical and non-cyclical task to ensure correlation from simulation to a sustainable operation.  The final output should lead to an operation that delivers a highly engaged team that meets safety and BIQIV metrics from launch into sustainable production.

The position may require supporting different shifts as required.


  • Leads standardizing and continuous improvement for the Supply Chain function
  • Delivers standardized work expectations that include process control and production maintenance partnership
  • Demonstrates standardized work verification in IVB through MVBs
  • Support/Implement GMS (Global Manufacturing System) strategies
  • Evaluate bottleneck areas and lead TIP process
  • Provide analysis for special requests, cost studies, etc.
  • Implement the IE deliverables to meet new product launch timing and metrics
  • Support departmental productivity plan to achieve HPV targets including MPH.
  • Support training for standardized work development and scrolling
  • Support implementation of Lean Material Strategies (LMS) to optimize part presentation & interfaces to operators
  • Utilizes plant knowledge, relationships and authority to “get things done.”
  • Engaged in Program from Verified Data Release (VDR) to Launch Team Release (LTR).

  • Responsibilities

    Product Interface & Issue Resolution Process

  • Utilize Production Knowledge to analyze major design, tooling and specification for SPQRC issues.
  • Engaged with the PDT, CIT, Peer Reviews, and MIT.
  • Actively engaged with the Engineering counterpart to ensure the Process Engineering requirements are met and executed for the shop.
  • Development of the initial JES and SOS with training and support of Core Team
  • Integral member of the problem resolution teams in designated shop, assisting in resolution of build issues while ensuring that the 7- diamond problem solving process is being utilized.
  • Executes the change management process for standardized work
  • Provides leadership during the daily issues meeting with Manufacturing and Engineering.
  • Supports daily Plant Issue Team meetings to resolve build issues and achieve schedule
  • Supports the Process Verification Reviews, ensuring the operations are reviewed for safety, ergonomics, containers, tooling, etc.
  • Attend and support Design and Process plus System Layout Reviews.

  • Process Validation

  • Ensures that the manufacturing validation plan supports the acceleration schedules and comprehends the plant build restrictions.
  • Facilitate and lead issue resolution for the TIP process
  • Drives ergonomics issue resolution by holding Shop ergonomic reviews and driving corrective actions.
  • Provide leadership and Production input to GMS implementation, pulling on additional support as required.
  • Provide production input to layout development and operator station layout, utilizing established verification process, error proofing, and operator certification by start of manufacturing validation build.
  • Plan & demonstrate production quality verification &preventive maintenance tasks to demonstrate BIQIV at MVBs

  • Education & Training

  • Implements lessons learned from previous programs and captures lessons learned during the program execution.
  • Ensure active participation during the Process Verification Builds (slow builds), concentrating on standardized time and task verification, and process control plan tasks with a BIQIV focus
  • Support shop training plans and development

  • Administration

  • Provides leadership to the shop launch structure.
  • Support PIT activities
  • Develop shop manpower & HPV budget and status
  • Establishes plant participation for Validation Center builds and tool shops, for system buyoffs.
  • Exhibit active participation as a member of the Launch Team and attends all Launch Team meetings, including the daily build wrap-up meetings, GCA, and production meetings.
  • Responsible to forecast and coordinate the necessary plant resources required during the launch (E.G. skilled trades, checkers, and production operators). 
  • Input into pre-production budget requirements: resources, materials, training aids, etc.

  • Deliverables

  • Flawless execution of the program deliverables within the Shop.
  • Sustainable shop operation performing with BIQ IV.
  • Identify and resolve issues to ensure a successful launch.
  • Shop capable of GCA, DRR goals at rate.
  • Build positive culture with a highly engaged team
  • Train shop organization.
  • Share Lessons Learned.

  • Qualifications


  • BS or MS Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and/or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated Industrial Engineering skills and work measurement techniques to drive continuous improvement activities
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing and assembly processes and lean manufacturing knowledge/experience
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • High level of computer, written, and oral communication skills
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusually difficult
  • Preferred

  • Experience working with GMS implementation
  • Experience with BIQIV audit preparation
  • Experience with Indirect Engineering processes and systems
  • Experience with GMOS (Global Material Optimization System)
