    Job DescriptionSCOPE OF POSITIONOutpatient Care East lab encompasses specimen collection, specimen processing, and Point of Care testing services within the Department of Clinical Laboratories under the business unit of Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center East Hospital. The Outpatient Care East lab is staffed according to the building operational hours of 7:30 am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Hours/days could vary as operation may dictate.POSITION SUMMARYThe patient service tech (PST) performs specimen collection by both venipuncture and capillary puncture, specimen labeling, specimen processing, and performs EKG. Verifies accuracy and quality of specimens collected and dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations. Also performs test requisition entry, greets and directs patients through the lab and gathers complete patient information necessary to complete the registration and accessioning of all procedures done in the area. Performs point of care testing; ensures accuracy of results and Quality Control by maintaining equipment and instruments. Follows policy for chain of custody record keeping for pre-employment/Chain of custody urine collections.Minimum Education RequiredHS Graduate or Equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experienceRequired QualificationsHigh school graduate or equivalent required; Certified phlebotomist preferred; EKG training through an accredited organization preferred.
