Job Description:

Cat Motor Graders are the most reliable, efficient and cost-effective products on the market that turn uneven terrain into flat, smooth surfaces enabling our customers to build the infrastructure we all need.  If you are an innovative, self-starting and quality minded engineer, an excellent opportunity for you to join the Motor Grader team in our Earthmoving Division as a Senior Engineer.  In this role, you will focus on the integrated machine Quality and Reliability.  You will lead proactive quality analysis, strategy development, and execution for Motor Grader products.  You will work directly with the product development team to mentor, coach, train and improve processes that deliver high quality products in the market.   


Specifically, you can expect to:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve lean product development processes that enhance machine reliability, durability, and proactive/predictive risk reduction.
  • Demonstrate your technical leadership skills by coaching and mentoring development team members to ensure consistent execution of quality processes (APQP, FMEA, NPI (New Product Introduction), Lean Development, etc.).
  • Champion of Motor Grader quality processes, tools, integration, and built-in quality.
  • Analyze and identify machine level opportunities for improved reliability/durability through system/component advanced research or new technology projects.
  • Showcase your ability to develop and perform on a complex project or program and direct the work with other units, suppliers, customers, and teams
  • Negotiate, build consensus, and achieving compromise across the team.
  • Keep multiple project key process indicators across a worldwide team updated.

  • Additionally, in this role, you may

  • Design and promote new processes.
  • Contribute to establishing the product line quality strategy for the product group.
  • Analyze and define projects to advance overall machine reliability/durability.
  • Support product development leaders in quality process execution.
  • Keep current on new technologies or develop new technologies.
  • Communicate technology to customers, team members, suppliers, and other units.
  • Support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers, suppliers, and other process partners.

  • The successful candidate must bring (Basic Qualifications):

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science AND at least 9 years.  Advanced degree will be considered with commensurate experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments.
  • Understanding complex process problems and demonstrate the ability to identify the problems and develop creative solutions
  • Spatial and conceptual engineering skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of product development processes, problem solving, and continuous improvement mindset.

  • Top Candidates will also bring:

  • Experience with the Caterpillar NPI and quality processes.
  • Lean product and process development experience (effective use of Obeya, KanBan, resource leveling, value stream mapping, continuous improvement mindset).
  • Experience with APQP execution and tools (Requirements, FMEA’s, etc.).
  • Understanding of the Weibull curve and reliability predictions.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and ownership of a process or design.
  • Demonstrated innovation with process design, development, and control.
  • Machine system integration or validation experience.
  • Experience with QRWB processes/tools, PRWB, CQMS and print reading.
  • An understanding of machine configuration and product development project work.
  • Project management skills including experience running multiple projects across multiple teams and elements.
  • Solid interpersonal skills – the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships
  • Strong communication skills – oral and written complemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well as employees in other units, internal/external customers, and dealers
  • Demonstrated leadership – the ability to assemble and lead diverse teams, to direct the work of others in pursuit of common goals, and to deliver results on time and within budget, while meeting customer requirements
